The "Hime-iyo-kazura" (Cynanchum matsumurae) belongs to Asclepiadaceae (the Milkweed family). It is a perennial herb that is found on Okinoerabu Island and Yoron Island in the Amami Islands, as well as on Okinawa Island, Aka Island, and Tonaki Island in the Okinawa Islands. It grows in grassy areas near the coast and reaches a height of 20 to 40 cm. The stem is erect. The leaves are elliptical to ovate, with entire margins, and are arranged in opposite pairs. From around April to August, it produces slightly short inflorescences from the upper leaf axils, bearing pale yellow to yellowish-brown flowers. The corolla is 5-lobed. The fruit is a broadly lanceolate capsule. It is listed as Endangered (EN) in the Ministry of the Environment's Red List.
