わが国の本州、関東地方以西から四国・九州に分布しています。「ふもとすみれ」の亜種です。山地の林縁などに生え、高さは３〜６センチになります。葉は心形から三角形で、粗い鋸歯があります。葉の裏面は、ふつう淡緑色です。３月から５月ごろ、紫色の筋が目立つ白色の花を咲かせます。

"Miyama-hime-sumire" (Viola boissieuana) belongs to Violaceae (the Viola family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed westward from Kanto district of Honahu to Shikoku and Kyushu of Japan. It is a sub-species of "Fumoto-sumire" (Viola sieboldii). This herb grows in montane forest edges and can reach 3-6 cm in height. The leaves are cordate to deltoid with coarsely-toothed margins. The abaxial side of leaves are usually pale green. The white flowers with conspicuous purple stripes appear feom March to May.
