ひめおにそてつ (姫鬼蘇鉄) [Index] [Back] 南アフリカの東ケープ地方が原産です。乾燥した潅木帯や、もっともふつうには稜線や斜面に生え、高さは１メートルほどになります。葉は１メートルほどの長さになる羽状複葉で、丈夫で棘の多い小葉がつきます。若い葉は銀青色をしていますが、時間が過ぎると緑色に変わります。雄と雌の球果が両方作られます。球果はふつう褐色あるいは黒色がかった赤色で、細かい毛が層をなして密生しています。  ソテツ科オニソテツ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Encephalartos horridus。英名は Eastern Cape blue cycad。  The eastern Cape blue cycad (Encephalartos horridus) belongs to Cycadaceae (the Cycad family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. This shrub grows in arid shrublands, most commonly on ridges and slopes, and up to a height of 1 m. The leaves are up to 1 m long, pinnately compound with stiff, spiny leaflets. The younger leaves are a silvery-blue color but turn green with age. Both male and female cones are produced.
