"Hime-sumire" (Viola confusa ssp. nagasakiensis) belongs to Violaceae (Violet family). It is a perennial herb that is native from Akita Prefecture of Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu. Thhis herb grows on sunny roadsides, cemetery near town or along the railways, and it can reach 3-8 cm in height. The leaves are deltoid-lanceolate, dark green and the abaxial sides are usually tinged purple. They have coarsely toothed edges and wingless petioles, different from "Manchurian violet". The purple flowers bloom from March to May. The lateral petals are beared at the bases and the spurs' color are pale.
