"Hime-usunoki" (Vaccinium yatabei) belongs to Ericaceae (the Azalea family). It is a deciduous shrub that is native northward from Chubu district of Honshu. This shrub grows in sub-alpine coniferous forests and edges, and it can reach 10-30 cm in height. The branches are acute quadrangular, and zigzag divaricating. The leaves are ovate to broad ovate, serrate and arranged in alternate. The yellowish white, urn-shaped, solitary flower bloom atop of branch from May to June. The fruit is obovate-round and ripen rose pink from July to September.
