The "Hidaka-misebaya" (Hylotelephium cauticola) belongs to Crassulaceae (the Orpine family). It is an evergreen herb that is endemic to Hokkaido, Japan, and is found primarily in the Tokachi and Hidaka regions. It grows in harsh environments such as mountainous areas and coastal cliffs, reaching a height of 10 to 15 cm. Its fleshy leaves are opposite and vary widely in shape, ranging from round to oval. From August through October, it produces small, deep reddish-purple, five-petaled flowers in corymb-like inflorescences at the tips of its stems.
