アメリカの東部から中南部に分布しています。乾燥した疎林などに生え、高さは５０〜１００センチになります。茎には４稜があります。葉は卵形で粗い鋸歯があり、ミントに似た香味があるため、ハーブティーとしても利用されます。夏から初秋にかけて、密集した花序に小さなピンク色の花を咲かせます。花の近くの苞葉が白くなります。

シソ科ピクナンテムム属の多年草で、学名は Pycnanthemum muticum。英名は Cluster mountain mint、Short-toothed mountain mint。

The cluster mountain mint (Pycnanthemum muticum) belongs to Lamiaceae (the Mint family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the east and south-central United States. This herb groes in dry open woods and can reach 50-100 cm in height. Stems are square. Leaves are opposite, ovate with coarsely toothed edges, and have a pleasant mint-like aroma and flavour and can be used to make a refreshing tea. Dense clusters of small pinkish flowers with silvery bracts are seen from summer to early fall.
