わが国の本州、東北地方に分布しています。亜高山帯から高山帯の雪田や湿った草地に生え、高さは１０〜１５センチになります。葉は卵円形で、上半部に５〜９個の鋸歯があり、根生します。６月から８月ごろ、細い花茎を伸ばして、２個から１０個くらいの、白色で中央が黄色い花を咲かせます。直径は１センチほどです。

サクラソウ科サクラソウ属の多年草で、学名は Primula nipponica。英名はありません。

"Hina-zakura" (Primula nipponica) belongs to Primulaceae (the Primrose family). It is a perennial herb that is native to Tohoku district of Honshu. This herb grows in sub-alpine to alpine snow patches or wet grasslands, and it can reach 10-15 cm in height. The leaves are ovate-round, basal, with 5-9 serrate margins at upper-half of leaf blades. The slender flowering stalks are borne and bloom 2-10, white with yellow center flowers from June to August. The corolla is about 1 cm across.
