"Hige-nogariyasu" (Calamagrostis longiseta) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a perennial herb that is an endemic species of Japan, and distibuted mainly in Chubu district of Honshu. This grass grows in montane to sub-alpine grasslands and can reach 20-80 cm in height. The culms are fasciculate, and the leaves are linear, 15-30 cm long, with glabrous sheathes. The spikes are borne atop of culms and the cluster-branches are arranged semi-whorled on the stems. The spikelets are tinged yellowish green to purplish, and the long arista protrude from the spikelets.
