わが国の本州、関東地方以西から九州、それに中国東中部、ベトナムに分布しています。山地の沢沿いの湿った岩上に生え、高さは５〜１５センチになります。ロゼット状の葉はさじ形、茎葉は広線形で互生します。５月から６月ごろ、茎頂に集散花序をだし、黄色い花を咲かせます。裂開する前の葯は赤橙色です。花後に走出枝（Runner）を伸ばして広がり、先端についたロゼットで越冬します。別名で「こまんねんそう（小万年草）」とも呼ばれます。中国名では「細小景天（xi xiao jing tian）」。

"Hime-renge" (Sedum subtile) belongs to Crassulaceae (the Orpine family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Japan from the Kanto region of Honshu westward to Kyushu in Japan, as well as in east-central China and Vietnam. It grows on moist rocks along streams in mountainous areas and is 5 to 15 cm tall. It produces cauline inflorescences at the top of stems from May to June, and produces yellow flowers. The anthers are reddish-orange before they split open. After flowering, it spreads by extending runners and overwinters in rosettes attached to the tips. It is also known as "小万年草" (ko-mannen-so) in Japan. Its Chinese name is "細小景天" (xi xiao jing tian).
