ひさかきさざんか (妃榊山茶花) [Index] [Back] わが国の南西諸島、沖永良部島から西表島に分布しています。山地や林縁に生え、高さは３〜１０メートルになります。樹皮は灰褐色。葉は互生し、長楕円形で先は尖り、縁には鋭い鋸歯があります。５月から７月ごろ、枝先の葉腋に直径３〜４センチの白色の花を咲かせます。花は５弁花で質は厚いです。�刮ﾊは長さ２センチほどの楕円形で、熟すと３裂して種子をだします。  ツバキ科ヒサカキサザンカ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Tutcheria virgata (syn. Pyrenaria microcarpa)。英名はありません。  "Hisakaki-sazanka" (Tutcheria virgata) belongs to Theaceae (the Tea family). It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is the Nansei Islands, from Okinoerabu Isalnd south to Iriomote Island. This tree grows in mountains and forests, and up to a height of 3-10 m. The bark is grayish brown. The leaves are opposite, oblong with pointed tips and acute serrated edges. The white flowers with a diameter of 3-4 cm blooms in the axils of the branchs from May to July.
