"Hisakaki-sazanka" (Tutcheria virgata) belongs to Theaceae (the Tea family). It is a semi-tall evergreen tree that is the Nansei Islands, from Okinoerabu Isalnd south to Iriomote Island. This tree grows in mountains and forests, and up to a height of 3-10 m. The bark is grayish brown. The leaves are opposite, oblong with pointed tips and acute serrated edges. The white flowers with a diameter of 3-4 cm blooms in the axils of the branchs from May to July. The fruits are elliptic capsules about 2 cm in length, and split open 3 tears to appear seeds when mature.
