わが国の本州、中部地方以西から四国・九州に分布している「しゃりんばい（車輪梅）」の一品種です。高さは２〜４メートルほどになり、庭園に植栽されます。葉は楕円形で、母種よりも小さめです。５月から６月ごろ、枝先の円錐花序に白色の花を咲かせます。

バラ科シャリンバイ属の常緑低木で、学名は Raphiolepis indica var. umbellata f. minor。英名はありません。

"Hime-sharin-bai" (Raphiolepis indica var. umbellata f. minor) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small evergreen tree that is a variety of "Yeddo hawthorn" distributed from Chubu district of Honshu west to Shikoku and Kyushu in Japan. It grows 2 to 4 m tall and is planted in gardens. The leaves are elliptic and smaller than those of the mother species. It produces white flowers in panicles at the ends of its branches from May to June.
