わが国の本州と四国に分布しています。高さは１〜２メートルになり、節はやや膨れます。桿鞘（竹の皮）には逆向きの細毛があり、葉の裏面にも軟毛が密生することが特徴です。和名と種小名は、飛州（飛騨の国）に因みます。

イネ科アズマザサ属のササ類で、学名は Sasaella hidaensis。英名はありません。

"Hishu-zasa" (Sasaella hidaensis) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a bumboo that is distributed in Honshu and Shikoku in Japan. It grows 1 to 2 m tall, and its nodes are slightly swollen. The clum sheath (bamboo bark) has fine hairs facing the opposite direction, and the underside of the leaf is also characterized by dense soft hairs. The Japanese name and the specific epithet "hishu" come from Hida province.
