The Jasminum humile var. humile belongs to Oleaceae (the Olive family). It is an evergreen shrub that is found in southwestern China, from Guizhou to Sichuan, Yunnan, and Tibet, as well as in Afghanistan, India, and Tajikistan. It grows in forests at elevations of 1100 to 3500 m and is 0.5 to 3 m tall. It has odd pinnate compound leaves with 3 to 7 ovate to lanceolate leaflets. 1 to 10 yellow tubular flowers bloom in drooping umbels or corymbs from April to July. In Chinese, it is called "矮探春" (ai tan chun).
