Mukdenia acanthifolia belongs to Saxifragaceae (the Saxifrage family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the northwestern Korean Peninsula. This herb grows in mountains and up to a height of 15-30 cm. It spreads by rhizomatous roots. The leaves are large, heart-shaped with long stalks, and turn yellow in fall. The flowers start to appear in early spring before the leaves. They are small, creamy-white, star-shaped with green eyes.
