わが国の固有種で、本州の福島県以南から四国・九州に分布しています。日当たりの良い山地の谷筋などに生え、高さは５〜８メートルになります。葉は掌状にふつう９〜１１裂し、裂片と裂片のあいだに隙間があるのが特徴です。４月から５月ごろ、複散房花序に雄花と両生花を咲かせます。「こはうちわかえで」と似ていますが、葉柄や花序が無毛で、明瞭な鋸歯があり、翼果が斜めに開くのが異なります。

カエデ科カエデ属の落葉小高木で、学名は Acer tenuifolium。英名はありません。

The "Hina-uchiwa-kaede" (Acer tenuifolium) belongs to Aceraceae (the Maple family). It is a semi-tall deciduous tree that is endemic to Japan, and distributed southward from Fukushima prefecture of Honshu to Shikoku and Kyushu. This tree grows in sunny mountain valleys and can reach 5-8 m in height. The leaves are usually divided into 9-11 lobes palmately and difined by interspaces of lobes. The male and bisexal flowers bloom in the compound corymbs from April to May. It resembles to "Ko-hauchiwa-kaede", though it defined by hairless petioles and clusters, obvious toothed edges and samaras with obtuse angle opened wings.
