The "Hiyodori-bana" (Eupatorium chinense) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed all over Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, China and Philippine. This herb grows in sunny fields and mountains. Its stem is erect and can reach 1-2 m in height. The leaves are ovate-oblong and opposite with short petioles. The corymbs are borne on the branched stem and bloom white or magenta flower-heads from August to October. The flower-head consists of around 5 tubular flowers. The tip of style is branched and elongated. The Japanese name comes from the fact that the flowers bloom when Brown-eared bulbul come to the village to sing.
