わが国の本州、中部地方以北から北海道それにシベリアに分布しています。「きりんそう」の基本種です。低山帯から亜高山帯の草原に生え、高さは３０〜５０センチになります。葉は披針形から倒卵状披針形で、基部まで鋸歯があり、互生します。７月から８月ごろ、茎の先に集散花序をだし、黄色の星形の花を咲かせます。

ベンケイソウ科マンネングサ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Sedum aizoon var. aizoon。英名は Aizoon stonecrop。

The Aizoon stonecrop (Sedum aizoon var. aizoon) belongs to Crassulaceae (the Orpine family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is distributed northward from Chubu district of Honshu to Hokkaido of Japan and Siberia. This herb grows in montane to subalpine grasslands and can reach 30-50 cm in height. The leaves are lanceolate to obovate-lanceolate, alternate and serrate down to the bases. The cymes are borne on the stem apices and bloom yellow star-shaped flowers from July to August.
