The "Hokkai-koohone" (Nuphar x hokkaiensis) belongs to Nymphaeaceae (the Waterlily family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Hokkaido, Japan. It grows in clean ponds, marshes, and streams. It is a hybrid between "Koo-hone" (Nuphar japonicum) and "Nemuro-koohone" (Nuphar pumilum), exhibiting intermediate characteristics of both species. Its rhizomes creep through the mud, extending long stipes to float circular leaves on the water surface. In deeper water, the leaves float, while in shallower areas, emergent leaves are mixed in. From July to August, it extends a scape above the water surface, blooming with vivid yellow flowers. The center stigma disk ranges from yellow to red.
