"Hondo-miyama-nezu" (Juniperus communis var. hondoensis) belongs to Cupressaceae (the Cypress family). It is a small evergreen tree that is distributed to Chubu district of Honshu. This tree grows in rocky areas and sandy gravel areas of the alpine zone. The trunk is ascending or crawling on the ground. The leaves are needle-like, 5-10 mm long, and three whorled. The base of the leaf bends slightly in an arc. It is dioecious, and the flowers bloom at the new branches in June to July. The fruits are strobiles, 6-7 mm across, with flat tips.
