It grows on sandstone and granite rocky gravel, and is 30-40 cm tall. The corms are covered with a thin skin. The leaves are linear and leathery with inconspicuous veins. In the fall, from April to June, it produces a curved inflorescence at the top of the stem, which produces vermilion-red flowers. The corolla has a yellow throat.
