The False spiraea (Sorbaria sorbifolia) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small deciduous tree that is distributed from the Chubu region of Honshu north to Hokkaido in Japan, as well as the Korean Peninsula, northeastern China, and Siberia. It grows in mountainous areas and grows 2 to 3 m high. The leaves are odd pinnate compound, and the leaflets have sharp biserrations on their margins. The small white flowers bloom in abundance in conical panicles at the ends of branches from July to August. The Chinese name is "珍珠梅" (zhen zhu mei).
