わが国の本州、和歌山・三重県に分布しています。熊野川支流域の湿った岩上に生え、高さは３０〜６０センチになります。葉は狭披針形から狭倒披針形で、光沢があります。８月から１０月ごろ、白い頭花を咲かせます。別名で「きしゅうぎく（紀州菊）」とも呼ばれます。

キク科シオン属の多年草で、学名は Aster sohayakiensis。英名はありません。

"Hosoba-nogiku" (Aster sohayakiensis) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in Wakayama and Mie prefectures of Honshu, Japan. It grows on moist rocks in the tributaries of the Kumano River and grows 30-60 cm tall. The leaves are narrowly lanceolate to narrowly oblanceolate and glossy. It produces white flower heads from August to October. It is also known as "Kishu-giku".
