中国の南部から東南アジアに分布している「ほうらいちく（鳳来竹」の変異種です。株立状になり、桿に白い条がでるのが特徴です。春から初夏にかけて、葉には多数の白条がはいります。タケノコは秋から冬にかけてでます。

イネ科ホウライチク属のタケ類で、学名は Bambusa multiplex f. variegata。英名は Variegated hedge bamboo。

The Variegated hedge bamboo (Bambusa multiplex f. variegata) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a variant form of Hedge bamboo which is native to southern China and south-east Asia. The culms are bushy. The culms have white stripes on a green ground. The leaves will have many white stripes in spring through early summer. The shoots are borne from fall to winter.
