The Bridewort (Spiraea salicifolia) belongs to Rosaceae (the Rose family). It is a small deciduous tree that grows in cold wetlands in Asia and Europe. In Japan, it can be found in Hokkaido and Nikko and Mt. Kirigamine of Honshu. Incidentally, the Takabotchi Plateau, where the photo was taken, is adjacent to the northwest of Mt. Kirigamine. It produces flowers similar to those of "Shimotsuke-so" around July to August. The Japanese name is derived from the spike-like inflorescence. The stamens are conspicuous.
