The "Hoso-koba-kana-warabi" (Arachniodes x neointermedia) belongs to the family Dryopteridaceae. It is an evergreen fern that is distributed from Chiba Prefecture on Honshu westwards to Shikoku, Kyushu in Japan and Jeju Island. It is thought to be a hybrid of "Hosoba-kana-warabi" (Arachniodes aristata) and "Koba-no-kana-warabi" (Arachniodes sporadosora), and it looks similar to "Hosoba-kana-warabi". It can be seen in the forest floor of the mountains where its parent species grow, but it is rare. The leaves are 4 times pinnate compound leaves, dark green in color, slightly shiny and leathery. The upper pinnas suddenly become shorter, becoming the terminal pinna. The sorus is located midway from near the midrib of the lobes, and the indusium is disk-shaped. Its meiosis is abnormal, and no spores are formed.
