The Indian senna (Cassia angustifolia) belongs to the Caesalpiniaceae family. It is an evergreen shrub that is native to India, Arab and tropical Africa. Nowdays, it is cultivated in India, Pakistan, Egypt and Sudan. The stem is smooth, erect, and can reach 60-90 cm in height. The leaves are pari-pinnate compound with 5-8 pairs of oblong leaflets. The flowers are pea-like yellow, with a brown center, and bloom in summer. The fruits are broadly oblong and slightly curved pods. The leaves are used as a herbal medicine for laxative.
