オーストラリア東部のクイーンズランド州およびニューサウスウェールズ州が原産です。ユーカリが優占する硬葉樹林内に生え、高さは１メートルほどになります。葉は羽状複葉で、樹冠に２０〜８０個つき、長さは２．３メートルくらいです。小葉は光沢のある暗緑色で、幅が狭くて長い線形です。雌雄異株で、雌花も雄花も「まつかさ（松笠）」のような形をしています。種小名は、オランダ人の植物学者フレンドリッヒ・アントン・ウィルヘルム・ミケルの名前に因みます。

The Miquel's cycad (Macrozamia miquelii) belongs to Cycadaceae (the Cycad family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Queensland and New South Wales in eastern Australia. It grows in hardwood forests dominated by eucalypts and grows to a height of about 1 m. It has 20 to 80 pinnate compound leaves on its crown, which are about 2.3 m long. The leaflets are glossy dark green, narrow and long and linear. It is dioecious, and both male and female flowers are shaped like "pine cone". The specific epithet is named after the Dutch botanist Friedrich Anton Wilhelm Miquel.
