わが国の固有種で、本州中部地方の南アルプスに分布しています。山地から高山帯の林縁などに生え、高さは５０〜１００センチになります。葉は羽状に中裂し、ほとんど無毛です。８月から９月ごろ、上部の葉腋から長い花柄を伸ばし、淡紅色の頭花を横向きに咲かせます。総苞は長い円筒形で、総苞片は少し反り返ります。

キク科アザミ属の多年草で、学名は Cirsium gratiosum。英名はありません。

"Houki-azami" (Cirsium gratiosum) belongs to Asteraceae (the Aster family). It is a perennial herb that is endemic to Japan and is distributed in the Southern Alps of the central Honshu region. It grows at forest margins in mountainous to alpine areas and grows 50 to 100 cm tall. From August to September, long peduncles extend from the upper leaf axils, and light red flower heads bloom horizontally. The bracts are long and cylindrical, and the bracteoles are slightly recurved.
