The Three-petal bedstraw (Galium trifidum var. brevipedunculatum) belongs to Rubiaceae (the Madder family). It is a perennial herb that is widely distributed throughout Japan, the Korean Peninsula, China, and North America. It grows in wetlands from lowlands to subalpine zones and is 20 to 40 cm tall. The stems are four-ribbed, with four to six narrowly oblong to oblanceolate leaves in whorled. From June to August, short inflorescences emerge from the stem tops and leaf axils, producing small white flowers. The corolla usually has three lobes, but some have four.
