メキシコの北部から中部に分布しています。標高１５００〜２０００メートルの岩礫地などに生え、高さは６０センチほどになります。茎は直立し、基部は木質化します。葉は灰緑色で、細かく線形に分裂します。５月から８月ごろ、茎頂に鮮黄色のカップ形の花を咲かせます。雄しべは短く、葯はオレンジ色です。

ケシ科ハンネマニア属の多年草で、学名は Hunnemannia fumariifolia。英名は Mexican tulip poppy。

The Mexican tulip poppy (Hunnemannia fumariifolia) belongs to Papaveraceae (the Poppy family). It is a perennial herb that is native to northern and central Mexico. This herb grows in montane screes 1500-2000 m elevation and can reach about 60 cm in height. The stems are erect and lignify at the base. The leaves are grayish green and divided into linear lobes. The bright yellow cup-shaped flowers come in May through August. They have short stamens and orange anthers.
