The chamois cress (Hutchinsia alpina) belongs to Brassicaceae (the Mustard family). It is a perennial herb that is native to the mountains of southern and central Europe; the Alps, the Pyrenees and, the northern and central Apennines. This herb grows in limestone rocks and screes, to 3400 m elevation, and can reach 10-15 cm in height. The leaves are pinnate, hairless and shiny. The flowers are white, 4-5 mm in diameter, and bloom in small clusters from May to August.
