インドから東南アジア、中国の南部に分布しています。高温と直射日光を好み、「ほていあおい」のように葉鞘がスポンジ状に膨らんで、水面に浮かんで生活します。葉は披針形から長楕円形や卵形で、基部は心形です。和名では「ひるむしろしば（蛭蓆芝）」と呼ばれます。

イネ科ヒグロリザ属の多年草で、学名は Hygroryza aristata。英名はありません。

Hygroryza aristata belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed from India to Southeast Asia and southern China. This herb prefers high-temperature and direct sunlight and lives on the surface of the water. The leaf sheath bulges like a sponge like Water hyacinth. The leaves are lanceolate to oblong, ovate with heart-shaped bases.
