The Spider lily (Hymenocallis caribaea) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to the West Indies. It grows 45 to 60 cm tall. The flowers resemble those of the narcissus, but are characterized by their long, delicate, spider-like perianth segments. The genus name Hymenocallis is from the Greek "hymen", meaning "membrane", and "callis", meaning "beautiful".
