西インド諸島が原産です。高さは４５〜６０センチになります。「すいせん（水仙）」に似たような花を咲かせますが、繊細な長く伸びたクモのような花被片が特徴です。ヒメノカリスの属名は、ギリシャ語で「膜」を意味する「hymen」と「美しい」を意味する「callis」に由来します。 |

The Spider lily (Hymenocallis caribaea) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to the West Indies. It grows 45 to 60 cm tall. The flowers resemble those of the narcissus, but are characterized by their long, delicate, spider-like perianth segments. The genus name Hymenocallis is from the Greek "hymen", meaning "membrane", and "callis", meaning "beautiful". |
