西インド諸島が原産です。高さは８０センチほどになります。ふつう夏から秋にかけて、芳香のある白い花を咲かせます。花の形は特異なもので、６個の細長い花被片と膜状の副花冠、Ｔ字形をした褐色の葯が目立ちます。

ユリ科ヒメノカリス属の常緑多年草で、学名は Hymenocallis speciosa。英名は Spider lily。

The Spider lily (Hymenocallis speciosa) belongs to Liliaceae (the Lily family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to the West Indies. It grows to a height of about 80 cm. It usually produces fragrant white flowers from summer to fall. The flowers have a distinctive shape with six elongated perianth segments, a membranous corona and T-shaped brown anthers.
