The henbane (Hyoscyamus niger) belongs to Solanaceae (the Nightshade family). It is an annual or biennial herb that is native to Eurasia, though it is now globally distributed. This herb can reach 50-100 cm in height. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate to broad ovate, lobed and arranged in alternate. The grayish-yellow, funnel-shaped flowers bloom in summer. They have dark purple netted patches at the center of collora. This plant can be toxic, even fatal, to animals in low doses.
