The Scouler's St. Johnswort (Hypericum scouleri) belongs to the Clusiaceae family. It is a perennial herb that is native to western North America. This herb grows in moist places from the foothills to well up in the mountains, and it can reach about 60 cm in height. It spreads by slender stolons and rhizomes. The leaves are ovate-lanceolate to oblong, 1-3 cm long, usually purplish-black dotted, especially along the edges. The bright yellow, five-petaled flowers bloom from June to September. The fruits are capsules, 6-9 mm long.
