南アフリカの中西部、フリーステート州から北ケープ州に分布しています。乾燥した草原やサバンナに生え、大きな塊根から棘の多い茎を伸ばします。「きょうちくとう（夾竹桃）」に似たピンク色や淡いピンク色の花を咲かせます。花弁には濃いピンク色の筋が入ります。園芸上は「てんまくう（天馬空）」と呼ばれます。

キョウチクトウ科パキポジウム属の常緑小低木で、学名は Pachypodium succulentum。英名はありません。

The Pachypodium succulentum belongs Apocynaceae (the Dogbane family). It is an evergreen shrub that is found in the midwestern part of South Africa, from the Free State to the Northern Cape Province. It grows in dry grasslands and savannas, and its spiny stems grow from large caudexes. It produces pink or pale pink flowers similar to those of the oleander. The petals have dark pink streaks. Horticulturally, it is called "Tenmakuu" in Japan.
