中国の雲南省で、１９８０年代のおそくに発見された地生種のランです。葉は、暗緑色の地に緑色の斑紋があります。ミクランツム種は、その大きなボール状の唇弁が特徴です。花弁には、赤い縞に黄色や緑色のオーバーレイなど、さまざまな陰影があります。唇弁は、ふつうにはピンク色ですが真っ白なタイプもあります。新らしい芽に花が咲くまでには、５年から１０年もかかるということです。 |

The Silver slipper orchid (Paphiopedilum micranthum) belongs to Orchdaceae (the Orchid family). This terrestrial orchid was discovered in Yunnan, China, in the late 1980s. The leaves are dark green with green patches on a dark green background. The micranthum species is characterized by its large ball-shaped labellum. The petals have various shades of red stripes with yellow or green overlays. The labellum is usually pink, but pure white types are also available. It can take from five to ten years for a new bud to flower. In Chinese, it is called "硬葉兜蘭" (ying ye dou lan). |
