スペイン南部の山地に分布しています。岩場のクレビスに生え、高さは３５〜４５センチになります。茎や葉には剛毛が生えています。夏に、花茎を伸ばして赤レンガ色またはピンク色の花を咲かせます。アトランティクム種（Papaver atlanticum）の近縁です。

The Spanish poppy (Papaver rupifragum) belongs to Papaveraceae (the Poppy family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed in the mountains of southern Spain. It grows on rocky crevices and is 35-45 cm tall. The stems and leaves are bristly. In summer, it produces red brick- or pink-colored flowers on scapes. It is closely related to the Papaver atlanticum.
