Paphiopedilum venustum belongs to Orchidaceae (the Orchid family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is native to around Himalaya, India to Nepal and Bangladesh. This herb is terrestrial and grows in piedmonts at 60-1350 m elevation. The leaves are dark green, oblong with light green mottles. The flower is borne singly on an erect spike and 8-9 cm across in winter. The dorsal sepal is white with prominent green stripes, the petals are oblanceolate, greenish yellow and spotted reddish brown, the lip is yellowish pink and with green veins.
