ブラジルのアマゾン流域が原産です。二次林や放置された林の縁などにふつうに見ることができます。鮮やかな朱赤色の花を咲かせます。つぼみが膨らんでくると苞が鮮やかな色に変化しますが、これはハミングバードへの吸蜜のシグナルだと考えられています。

トケイソウ科トケイソウ属の常緑小低木で、学名は Passiflora involucrata。英名はありません。

The Passiflora involucrata belongs to Passifloraceae (the Passion flower family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to the Amazon basin of Brazil. It is commonly found in secondary forests and along the margins of abandoned forests. It produces bright vermilion-red flowers. As the buds swell, the bracts turn a bright color, which is thought to be a signal to hummingbirds for nectar.
