ブラジル東部とペルーの北東部に分布しています。「おおながのくだものとけい（Passiflora quadrangularis）」の近縁種です。大きなしっかりした茎があり、大きな楕円形の葉をつけます。夏から秋にかけて、直径１５センチほどの濃いえんじ色の花を咲かせます。ひげのように長く伸びた副花冠が目立ちます。おいしい黄色い果実がなりますが、他家受粉が必要です。 |

The Showy granadilla (Passiflora phoenicea) belongs to Passifloraceae (the Passion flower family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in eastern Brazil and northeastern Peru. It is a close relative of the giant granadilla (Passiflora quadrangularis). It has large, solid stems and large elliptic leaves. It produces dark dark dark red flowers, about 15 cm in diameter, from summer to fall. The long, beard-like coronas are conspicuous. It produces delicious yellow fruit, but requires cross-pollination. |
