The Showy granadilla (Passiflora phoenicea) belongs to Passifloraceae (the Passion flower family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in eastern Brazil and northeastern Peru. It is a close relative of the giant granadilla (Passiflora quadrangularis). It has large, solid stems and large elliptic leaves. It produces dark dark dark red flowers, about 15 cm in diameter, from summer to fall. The long, beard-like coronas are conspicuous. It produces delicious yellow fruit, but requires cross-pollination.
