The Passiflora tridactylites belongs to Passifloraceae (the Passion flower family). It is an evergreen shrub that is considered a synonym or variant of the "Passiflora suberosa", which is distributed from Central America to South America and the South Pacific Islands. It grows up to 3 m tall, and has rounded, leathery, elliptic, single, non-dividing leaves. 3 cm in diameter, light green or yellow-green flowers bloom from July to November. The flowers have no petals and look like a small pentagram. The fruit is a pea-sized sphere that turns black when ripe. The origin of the specific epithet "three fingers" (tréis dáctylos) is unknown.
