The Passiflora tricuspis belongs to Passifloraceae (the Passion flower family). It is an evergreen shrub that is distributed in South America from Bolivia to Peru, Brazil, and Paraguay. It grows mainly in seasonally dry tropical biomes and is a vine, growing by climbing around other plants. The leaves are deeply 3 lobed and often have yellow, pink or dark red spots on the leaf surface. The flowers are 4-5 cm in diameter and consist of large, short white sepals and petals. Above this is a corona, which is also white or ivory with a pink base. The fruit is a beautiful shiny black color, like an olive seed.
