ブラジルが原産です。高さは１．５〜２．５メートルになります。葉は濃い緑色で光沢があり、披針形をしています。花はふつう晩春から初秋に咲きますが、条件が整うと冬中も咲きます。花は円錐形で直立し紫色、赤色や濃いピンク色の苞が周囲につきます。雄しべは濃い青色で突き出します。 |

The Brazilian candles (Pavonia multiflora) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Brazil. This shrub can reach a height of 1.5-2.5 m. The leaves are dark green, glossy and lanceolate, about 15 cm long. The flowers bloom usually from late spring to early fall, but in the right conditions this plant can bloom all winter long. The flower is cone-shapped, upright, purple and surrounded by red or dark pink bracts. The stamens are dark blue and protruding. |
