The Brazilian candles (Pavonia multiflora) belongs to Malvaceae (the Mallow family). It is an evergreen shrub that is native to Brazil. This shrub can reach a height of 1.5-2.5 m. The leaves are dark green, glossy and lanceolate, about 15 cm long. The flowers bloom usually from late spring to early fall, but in the right conditions this plant can bloom all winter long. The flower is cone-shapped, upright, purple and surrounded by red or dark pink bracts. The stamens are dark blue and protruding.
