南アフリカ原産のグランディフロルム種（Pelargonium grandiflorum）やククラツム種（Pelargonium cucullatum）、アングラツム種（Pelargonium angulatum）などの交雑によって作出された園芸品種群です。茎は細くて木質化し、高さは１メートルほどになります。葉が広い心形で斑紋がなく、葉や茎には匂いがありません。４月から７月ごろ、茎の先に大きくて華やかな花を咲かせます。花色も多く、斑紋（Blotch）が入ったり２色のものもあります。和名では「なつざきてんじくあおい（夏咲き天竺葵）」と呼ばれます。

フウロソウ科テンジクアオイ属の常緑多年草で、学名は Pelargonium grandiflorum hybrids。英名は Fancy geranium、Show geranium。

The Fancy geranium (Pelargonium grandiflorum hybrids) belongs to Geraniaceae (the Geranium family). It is an evergreen perennial herb that is a caltivar-group between the Pelargonium grandiflorum, the Pelargonium cucullatum and the Pelargonium angulatum. The stems are slender and lignified, and can reach about 1 m in height. The leaves are broad cordate. They don't have mottles and sweet scent. The large brillante flowers appear from April to July. There are many flower-colors; including bicolor or blotched.
