The Burgundy fountain grass (Pennisetum macrostachyum cv. Burgundy Giant) belongs to Poaceae (the Grass family). It is a perennial herb that is believed to be a garden variety of the Pennisetum macrostachyum, which is found on the islands of Borneo and New Guinea in Southeast Asia. It grows 1.2 to 1.5 m tall and has linear, reddish-brown, red wine-colored (bronzy burgundy) leaves. In summer, it produces a 30cm-long, shrimp-brown, spikes at the top of the stem. It is planted in gardens and used in floral arrangements.
