The littleflower penstemon (Penstemon procerus) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is native to western North America; from Alaska to California to Colorado, as far east in Canada as Manitoba. This herb grows in montane to subalpine to alpine meadows and rocky slopes, and it can reach 40 cm in height. The leaves are lanceolate to ovate, entire, and plentiful around the base of the plant. The flowers are purple to blue in color, often with a white throat, and bloom in mid summer. The inflorescence is made up of one or more clusters of tubular flowers.
