The Cliff penstemon (Penstemon rupicola) belongs to Scrophulariaceae (the Figwort family). It is a perennial herb that is distributed along the Pacific coast of the United States, from central Washington to northern California. It grows in clusters on rocky gravel slopes, ledges, and cliffs in the subalpine zone, and grows to a height of about 10 cm. The leaves are small, ovate, opposite, and have irregular, fine serrations on the edges. The upper lip of the corolla has two lobes that bend upward, and the lower lip has three lobes that bend downward.
